Public School 174 Instructional Priorities
2026-2027

This year, Public School 174 will strengthen instructional practice through a coordinated cycle of goal setting, high-quality instruction, progress monitoring, and responsive support. Using state, school, and classroom data, we will identify areas of need, establish measurable goals, and monitor student growth throughout the year. Our professional learning and collaborative structures will support teachers in making purposeful instructional decisions that lead to strong outcomes for every student.

1. Rigorous, Explicit Instruction
We will ensure that all students have access to rigorous, grade-level instruction through clear modeling, purposeful questioning, guided practice, checks for understanding, and opportunities for students to apply learning independently. Instruction will emphasize conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and student ownership of learning.

2. Assessment, Goal Setting & Progress Monitoring
We will use state assessment results as a baseline and draw upon common/shared assessments, formative assessments, and other measures of student learning to establish goals and monitor growth. Teachers and teams will regularly analyze data, identify trends, evaluate progress toward goals, and determine appropriate instructional next steps.

3. Responsive Instruction & Targeted Support
We will use evidence of student learning to provide responsive whole-group and small-group instruction. Flexible grouping, targeted scaffolds, reteaching, intervention, and enrichment will be used strategically to address individual student needs while maintaining access to grade-level standards and expectations.

4. Collaborative Professional Learning & Collective Accountability
Professional learning will be intentionally aligned to school priorities, student data, and identified areas of instructional need. Through coaching, collaborative planning, inquiry, and shared reflection, staff will strengthen practice and share responsibility for student growth and achievement.
